Defence and Mediation
Committees
(CMD)
|
Defense and
Mediation Committees (CMD) are
representations of Heritiers de la Justice
at grassroots levels. They are generally composed
of local leaders (pastors, teachers, nurses, civil
servants, …). Currently there are 21 CMDs spread out
all over the province of South Kivu. In their turn,
these CMDs have established in various villages
substructures named “Sous-CMD”.
What role do CMDs play? They popularize human rights
at the village scale. They enquire about and
monitor human situations. They facilitate mediation
and reconciliation between individuals, families and
communities.
CMDs are substantially trained in human rights and
conflicts management by Héritiers de la Justice.
The committee of each CMD was trained in human
rights matters, knowledge of the congolese laws,
conflict prevention and resolution. A number of
office supplies and other effects are provided in
order to facilitate their work: bicycles,
portfolios, boots, and some operating expenses
depending on the means of Héritiers de la Justice.
