The article 24 of the African Charter  of the Human rights and the rights of the people  says that each people has the right to a favourable environment that facilitates its development as well as the rights to enjoy its riches, its naturaal resources. No people can be deprived of these rights (Article 12).

 

In that perpective, congolese have the rights to a favourable environment capable to facilitate their development.

 

Both the Government and the citizens are therefore called to protect the environment according to the law (Article 54 of the Constitution of the transition  of April 4th, 2003).

 

Héritiers de la Justice being engaged in the human rights defense and peace promotion  bases its actions of the protection of the environment on these principles and international conventions. It focuses its actions on:

-         forest exploitation;

-         protection and management of the natural resources;

-         rights of local communities, especially natives;

 

To fulfil its objectives, Héritiers de la Justice has just set up a mecanism of Forest Observatory. In this observatory there actions of advocacy that are being carried out for the respect of the above mentioned principles, according to the law at the national, regional and international levels.
