This attack occurred after a clash between the armed force of the rebel movement in control of the Kivu region (RCD) and the notorious Interahamwe militia. The clash is said to have taken place around the Bishanyi area in Kalehe.

The two brothers Lumeto and Bahati Lumeto, sons of Mr. Lumeto Bisuro, went missing and none has heard about their whereabouts up to now.
Furthermore, more than 40 households were looted by the same members of the Local Defense. Among the owners of the looted houses are, Lumeto Bisuro,, Kasisi Charles, Safari Kasisi, Shituka Chibuga, Safari Marara, Chizungu Kalire, Nyamuhondo Mitima Pondo, Masumbuko Chihindamuko, Kaneno Chifuko, Paluku Mubira, Samuel Nachime, Emmanuel Nachime, Pasteur Pascal Kahenga, Mufanzara Oswald, Shangali Ntaboba, Mapendo Rugusha, Musa Shabira, Spéciose M'Habali, Tombola Marara, Kanani Kabagaya, Moïse Malambo, Kabiri Kahunga, Kachimba Mubugu, Léontine M'Bihir, M'Masonga Julienne (veuve de Kapepo Kabagaya), Karubamba Clément, M'Musamuguma Appoline, Kashugushu Gustave, M'Mulengabyuma Marie, Heri Kahundahunda, Daniel Kahundahunda, Kasole Kahundahunda, Mukungilwa Nyampampa, Wutukalusu Mukungilwa Stop, Denis Mukungilwa, Kamungo Shabira, Mukara André, Masemo Ntanda, M'Nkubojoka Nyababiri( veuve de Tabaro Kahunga), Muhindo Ntaboba et M'Ciringa Nyababiri.
